FAQs

  • We offer packages for a few reasons. The first is that brief, targeted therapy can be very effective for young people when it is delivered in a tailored and individualised way. This means that the sessions included in the packages may be enough for the young person. The second is that offering a certain number of sessions keeps the therapy focused and young people, their families and carers know exactly what to expect. Lastly, if the young person is under 18 we follow up with the parent/s or carer/s to establish if they would like to continue with single sessions.

  • We operate on an upfront booking and payment system. You can pay for packages as a lump sum (with 10% discount) or by individual session when booking an initial appointment.

We offer a full refund if an appointment or fully payed package is cancelled within 24 hours of the upcoming appointment, or you can opt to reschedule.

  • While our packages are set out and explain what each session will cover we always adapt the sessions to meet the needs of the young person. We do this by ensuring that we offer age appropriate approaches to delivering therapeutic interventions and establishing the young person's needs and goals in the initial session.

    Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is helpful in helping the young person understand how their thoughts, feelings and behaviours are connected. Working together in the sessions to identify negative thought patterns and develop healthier coping strategies.

    Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

DBT skills can help a young person manage intense emotions, improve relationships and cope with difficult situations. We focus on developing strategies such as mindfulness, emotional regulation and distress tolerance.

    Solution-focused Brief Therapy

Focuses on the young persons strengths and helping them to explore and find solutions to problems, working together to identify goals and develop a plan to achieve them.

    Motivational Interviewing

A collaborative, person-centred approach helping the young person explore and resolve barriers to change or mixed feelings about a situation.

    Psycho-education

Providing young people with age appropriate information and resources to help them understand what they are experiencing and learn effective coping strategies, empowering them with knowledge.

  • A young person 18 years or older can self refer and pay for therapy. A young person under 18 must have a parent or carer book and pay for the sessions as well as provide contact details and sign our confidentiality, information sharing and privacy policies.

Our sessions with a young person are confidential meaning we do not share information about the sessions with parent’s and carers unless we become concerned about a young person’s safety towards themselves or others.

This can be challenging for parent’s and carer’s to sit with however, our priority is always the safety of the young person and the public. As registered mental health nurses we have a legal responsibility to escalate to responsible adults and/or mandatory report when required.

  • Once a young person has finished the sessions in a package we will call them (if 18+) or the referring parent/ carer to discuss if they feel ongoing sessions would be beneficial.

A young person may continue with individual sessions for multiple different reasons and each individual's circumstances are different. The sessions continue to be focused on individual need and goals or for maintenance therapy.

Ongoing sessions can then be arranged on a fortnightly or monthly basis by booking through our appointment system on a day and time that fits your individual needs.

  • A young person may be struggling with something which is of concern to the parent/s or carer/s enough to feel that engaging in therapy would be beneficial. However, the young person may not be willing to engage.

In these circumstances we suggest that booking an initial appointment may be of benefit. In this appointment we can explore what is happening with the young person and explain how we may be able to support them.

There is no need for further commitment to packages or sessions following this appointment if it is decided that the young person is not ready to engage.
